Middle Income Sun-seekers Turn-On to Turkey
In the Tourism Sweepstakes of 2006, Turkey has so far captured the Number 8 spot worldwide. In first place is the USA, then come Spain, France, Italy, Great Britain, China, Germany, and Turkey.
Turkey has earned $18.2 Billion from tourism during the first part of 2006 -- placing it between Germany and Australia on the Tourism Income list. And in the process, Turkey has become a favorite vacation destination for middle income tourists.
According to data reported by the Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu -- TUİK (The Statistics Institute of Turkey), middle income tourists show a preference for Turkey -- both for fun and sightseeing.
Between January and September 12.7 million foreign tourists visited Turkey -- 73.6% were in middle income brackets, 12.6% in higher income brackets and 13.6% in lower income brackets. Of that number, 55% of tourists reportedly came to Turkey for fun or sightseeing. Education levels of visitors was generally high -- with 27.2% of tourists reportedly working in 'professional fields'.
