| Ajda Pekkan Real Name: Rıdvan Pekkan Ajda Hanım has 50 movie credits to her name -- and her look-alike sister Semiramis Pekkan is credited with 19 films of her own. | Extremely successful Turkish Movie Star and Pop Singer whose career, beginning in 1962, currently spans 5 decades. Did Ajda Hanım's career include a no-holds-barred 'erotik' movie, made in France in the 1970's? Turkish movie historian, Agâh Özgüç thinks it might be so... In his book, Türk Sinemasında Cinselliğin Tarihi (The History of Sexuality in the Turkish Cinema), Agâh Bey poses the question, 'Was it really Ajda Pekkan or was it the German 'actress' Teresa Orlovski/Orlowski?' and he says, "It's been rumored for years that Ajda Pekkan made an 'erotik' movie in France when she was in Europe promoting her German and French-language musical-recordings in the 1970s. (Ed. Note: Her pop music single Pour Lui [For Him], was a smash hit in France in 1978.) And, along with the rumors, I've found many who say 'I saw Ajda Pakkan's erotic movie'. But, the film in question is no where to be found nowadays. So, the rumors persist but can't be absolutely confirmed. If she didn't make this movie, it might be better for Ajda Hanım if the film were found and made public. That way, she might clear her 'good name'. It's a fact, however, that Ajda Pekkan resembles several of the 'actresses' who appear in these 'erotik' movies of the 70's -- and vice versa. One such 'erotik actress' (who is the spitting image of Ajda Hanım) is Polish-born German actress Teresa Orlovski/Orlowski -- though her breasts may be a bit larger than Pekkan's. (Ed. note: As she has 'matured', Orlovski/Orlowski has parlayed her movie 'acting' career into a movie production career -- and her company is the leading producer of adult movies in Germany at the current time.) Still... Orlovski/Orlowski's hair, eyes, and nose are almost identical to Pekkan's. So it might be better for Ajda Hanım's reputation if that particular movie stays lost forever."

Was it because she was such an insignificant figure in Turkish cinema history? Allah aşkına! That doesn't square with the evidence of her filmography -- which shows that Elif Pektaş appeared in 32 feature films between 1970 and 1980... in starring roles opposite some of Turkey's most famous award-winning male actors (eg. Kadır İnanır - in Devlerin Aşkı 1976, Tarık Akan - in Kader Bağlayınca 1976, Cüneyt Arkın - in Soysuzlar 1975) under the direction of some of Turkey's most famous and important (and award-winning) directors (eg. Zeki Ökten - in Şaşkın Damat 1975, Osman F. Seden - in Delicesine 1976, Ertem Göreç - in Kan Kardeşler 1976) in films written by some of Turkey's finest award winning screenplay writers (eg. Sadık Sendil - in Şaşkin Damat 1975, Natuk Baytan - in Soysuzlar 1975, Safa Önal - in Bela Mustafa 1972).
Is the Internet-neglect of Elif Hanım a sort of 'punishment' because she made 10 'erotik' films during 1975-1976 -- in which she unabashedly disrobed (eg. in Babama Selam aka Dağilin Kazımlar Geliyor 1976) and wasn't squeamish about the occasional lesbian scene (eg. in Parayla Değil Sırayla)?
Or is it that no one wants to be reminded of her long struggle with cancer, diagnosed when she was just 37?
In relation to that possibility, here's what 'Erotik' Film Historian Cihan Demirci has to say about Elif Pektaş, "Elif Pektaş's story is a sad one in which she struggled 20 years with bone marrow cancer -- before passing away in 2003 at 57. One can't help wondering, however irrational it may be, if her demise had anything to do with her participation in the Seks Furyası (erotik movie boom) of the 1970's. The Seks Furyası claimed other female actors too, who were somehow cursed -- and who also met untimely ends: Alev Altın (cancer, age 29), Mine Mutlu (cancer, age 42), Feri Cansel (murder, age 39), Seher Şeniz (suicide, age 44), Funda Gürkan (accidental drug overdose, age 36)."
