Plot summary: Necla appears to love Ünsal but she is influenced by materialistic parents who want someone of a higher social standing for their daughter than he. They convince her to raise her material sights... and unbeknownst to Ünsal, they persuade her to marry Tarık -- recently rich from an unknown source. Ünsal is devastated by the turn of events but finds solace in the arms of Figen, a true blue friend in time of need. Ünsal turns his full attention to recovering his recently stolen fortune -- but he is in for shock, when he discovers where the trail leads...Plot Highlights: Although Necla declares undying love for Ünsal after they make love in an opening scene, she returns home to finalize wedding plans with Tarık, her nouveau riche suitor, and favorite of her parents. Ünsal learns of the marriage (though not the name of the bridegroom) too late, when Necla's mother presents him with Necla's 'Dear John' letter -- and he's grief-stricken. "Everything she told me was a lie, she was only interested in someone with money," he laments out loud. While Ünsal is mooning in a park by the Bosphorus, he's approached by true blue friend Figen -- who is secretly in love with him. After some unrevealing conversation, Ünsal departs leaving Figen confused...until she finds and reads the 'Dear John' letter that Ünsal discarded on the ground. Fearing that he may be contemplating suicide, she goes to his home, and smashes a window to let herself in to 'save' him. She finds him well enough, though still depressed about Necla. And after Figen confesses her long secret love for him -- they passionately 'consummate their friendship'. Afterwards, in a flashback we learn how Ünsal and Figen first met... on an off-shore island, where he'd been left for dead by his treasure-hunting partner Tahrık -- the same Tahrık that had married Necla! Tahrik had murdered a third partner (after the partnership together had made a major undersea treasure discovery), and then coshed Ünsal with a giant conk-shell -- before running off with all the loot for himself. To be continued... |

Plot summary: Was it suicide, or murder? Aytaç Arman plays the role of Kemal (a detective haunted by his past) who is just biding time until his retirement. One night, he receives a routine police call to visit the crime scene of a suspected suicide. The alleged victim? The clarinetist at the Şanzelize (Turkish spelling for the the French: Champs-Élysées), a cheap Istanbul night club. Kemal and his investigative team go to the Berlin Hotel where the event apparently took place, and they find a dead body all right -- but the face has been so brutally mutilated that it's unrecognizeable. Kemal becomes obsessed to learn what the man looked like -- and he makes use of a wide range of unsavory informants in his grisly search down the evidentiary trail. He also gets romantically entangled with the dead man's daughter, a prostitute (Nur Sürer). As the movie story nears its climax, Kemal attempts to flee Turkey -- and in the film's shock-ending we finally learn the reason for his obsessive behavior.
