These same blue-nosed native-Turkish film makers/critics even managed to strip Okay of the well-deserved Yeşilçam Orhon Murat Arıbunu cinematic award she received in 1999 -- all because she migrated from conventional to erotik films in the 1970s, for better pay. Arzu Okay Damned by faint sympathy... in 2006 'Interrogator' Nebil Özgentürk begins the following film-clip expressing a syrupy-sweet (but still highly-toxic) sort of sympathy for Arzu Okay, who is subsequently brought to tears -- as she pitifully disclaims her entire erotik film career...blaming it on 'youthful folly' and poor guidance from advisors (agents, mentors). Director Atıf Yılmaz delivers that sentiment with a sly wink, to be sure. But that's all. It's a potential lesbian relationship that isn't consummated." And even Müjde Ar chimes in, with a hardly-convincing rhetorical denial... "Around where I live (in Istanbul)... I often see [straight] women together like Suna and Ayla -- at the Ziya Bar, for example." Are these reborn Turkish cinema critics, historians, and players trying to blow smoke up our backsides?
