As we suggested in Part 2, Daring Dilber Ay, some erotik Turkish movie fans insist that Dilber Ay's performance in Sevginin Bedeli (The Equivalent of Love) surpasses, on the Cinsellik Meter, her performance in Takma Kafana (Don't Bother Yourself). The reason for that may be due (mostly) to one scene in particular -- a fantasy scene in which Dilber Ay portrays a penitent Catholic Worshipper who submits to a randy Catholic Priest (played by Zafer Doğan) in a make-shift Confessional. But we're getting a little ahead of ourselves...
The Full-Blown Plot (with pics):
Sevginin Bedeli (The Equivalent of Love), starring Dilber Ay, Zafer Doğan, Emel Canser, Yılmaz Şahin, Tevhit Bilge -- written and directed by Naki Yurter in 1979...
A wealthy widow (Emel Canser) and her lover/fiancé (Yılmaz Şahin) live in a luxurious mansion on the Boğaziçi -- and in the opening scene, we see them making passionate whoopie on a blanket on the floor, a la the Billie Jo Spears country-music classic Blanket on the Ground... After giving the blanket an 'inspiring' workout, the lovers get dressed -- and Canser announces that her step daughter Kezban (Dilber Ay) will arrive later in the day for the summer holidays. Mother Emel takes Zafer Doğan (as Kamil) with her (for some reason) and they meet Kezban at the boat dock. Mother and step-daughter return home leaving Zafer Doğan at the dock (for some reason). Upon learning that a birthday and welcoming party in her honor are planned for that evening, Kezban retires to her bedroom to shower and change clothes -- and we catch our first glimpse of Dilber Ay's 5-star physical form.
In the midst of Kezban's shower preparations, the scene shifts abruptly to the home/office of the family dress-maker. [Ed. Note: Abrupt shifts are a hallmark of our choppy copy of this 16mm film -- which makes it quite difficult to follow at times. Whether the Director, Naki Yurter, intended that the film be choppy in order to achieve an artistic effect or whether the choppiness is simply due to poor film reproduction technique is anyone's guess at this late date.]
The dressmaker's phone rings while she's measuring a client for a new dress. It's Kezban's mother (Emel Canser) calling to invite the dressmaker to Kezban's party that evening. [Ed. Note: On the phone, Canser addresses the dressmaker as Özden by name. Later, at the party, Kezban calls the dressmaker, Rezzan...but there's no explanation for the name-change.]
Once the party gets rolling with the help of some wine and other alcoholic beverages, a good time is had by all...and Zafer Doğan invites Dilber Ay to dance. The dance-partners entangle and can't help themselves... they both (individually) begin to fantasize sexually about each other -- with Dilber Ay's vivid day-dream scene leading off and setting the pace.
Follow where the double fantasy leads in Part 4...
