About the Artist Visit Raif Yazıcı's website Raif Yazıcı was born in Ladık -- Ladık My Hometown, in Winter Click! in the Samsun province of Turkey. He attended Erzincan Military High School, and then went on to graduate as an Army Engineer, in 1961, from the Turkish Military Academy. After more than 30 years of service in the Turkish Army, he retired as Colonel in 1993. Since early childhood, Raif Yazıcı's favorite avocation has been fine arts painting. Yazıcı completed his first studio works in Akpinar Country School, located in his hometown. Searching for the Light Click! While attending the Turkish Military Academy, he continued his studio work with the encouragement of his academy art teachers. Since his retirement from service, he has been working in his personal studio in Narlidere, Izmir - from which he has presented his works in highly regarded art exhibitions and contests. Yazıcı had joint exhibitions in several cities throughout Turkey including Ankara, Istanbul, Aydin, Denizli, Balikesir. The state-owned national Television TRT-INT and local channel SkyTV have produced and aired special programs about the artist and his work. His painting entitled Yedince Dalga (The Seventh Wave) was recognized as an impressive work among 630 paintings -- The Seventh Wave "I was inspired by Ayvasovski," says the artist. Click! and placed in the list of top-fifty paintings in a contest organized by the Turkish Navy. This painting was also featured in an oil painting catalog distributed by the Turkish Navy. Raif Yazıcı received the Special Juror Award for his painting My Çanakkale in the 85th National Sovereignty Oil Painting Contest organized by the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 2005. The Sea at Gümüldür "When I think 'Sea', I think of Gümüldür." Yazıci spends his summers in Gümüldür, along the unspoiled Aegean Seacoast of Turkey, near Izmir. Click! A second painting, titled Revolutions, was also chosen by jurors to be displayed in the exhibition. One of his acrylic paintings was chosen by the Ministry of Culture of Turkey to hang in the exhibition of the 68th State Oil Painting and Sculpture Contest. Raif Yazıcı won the grand prize for his painting Çanakkale - March 18th at the Oil Painting and Sculpture Contest organized by the Southern Sea Area Command of the Turkish Navy in 2008.
