TIME Magazine "independence" flattened by Armenian True-Believers
Going down for the count... Does anyone really believe that the (sad sack) Editor-in-Chief of TIME Magazine and his (greenhorn) Advertising Executives could actually be duped by those (wily) Turks at the Ankara Chamber of Commerce? ummm. We think not. Still, Mr. Pearlstine's weak-kneed reply (found in Part 1 of this article) opened the door for genocide true-believers to make repellent demands of TIME -- which caused our heads to spin. Making us dizzier still was the thought that TIME might actually cave to the true-believers demands. But that's exactly what happened.... Working on the principle that 2 (3, 4, or more) wrongs make a right, TIME quickly began granting concessions to the genocide true-believer's lobby: 1) In its 17 October 2005 issue, TIME (Europe) allowed publication of a hopping-mad page-long Letter-to-the-Editor concocted by five French Armenian Activist Groups (no doubt with former ties to ASALA or JCAG), including (please note) one group named, "The Movement Against Racism and for Friendship Among Peoples (MRAP)". 2) In the Editor's Note appended to the aforementioned letter, TIME apologized obsequiously "to the Armenian community and to our readers" for distributing the Turkish DVD. 3) In December 2005, the Editor of TIME International, Michael Elliott, delivered another concession, saying, "Please be advised that [hereafter] it is TIME's policy and practice to refer to the Armenian genocide as an historical fact. Accordingly, I will be informing our correspondents and editors that the term 'Armenian genocide' should be used without qualification."
Were those 3 concessions enough to calm the true-believers wrath -- and to give the principles of their "Movement Against Racism and for Friendship Among Peoples" a chance to work? Not on your life...On the contrary, when true-believers realized how easily they'd gained the first 3 concessions, they were emboldened to crank up their noise level another notch -- and indignantly demand more. The outcome was inevitable... TIME Magazine finally caved completely in February 2007 -- and granted the final concession...
