The 10 Most Photo-Opportunistic Self-Promoters in Turkey Not surprisingly, Turkish politicians dominate the pack followed closely by news-media 'stars', but they're not the only ones... Either variety raises hackles on the back of our collective neck... Look, ma... No scruples! Just show us Turkish-presstitutes the money! If these 4-faced journalistic show-offs are the best that the Turkish Press Corpse has to offer the Turkish nation during these trying times, then let the genies preserve us... These so-called 'distinguished' news-analysts waste the time and attention of serious Turkish citizenry, by writing about a european-style football scandal (Isn't that what sports writers are supposed to do?)... while mayhem in Turkey carries on apace. PKK terrrorists move at will against public and private targets, hundreds of innocent Turks (opposition parliamentarians, reporters, educators, military personnel, judicial officials, etc.) are imprisoned without trial on trumped up allegations of Ergonokon-treason, the Turkish education system in shambles, unemployment exceeding 10%, etc. and these journalistic pre$$titutes are writing about a football scandal? What a shame on Sedat Ergin, Ertuğrul Özkök, Enis Berberoğlu, and Ahmet Hakan! Self-Promoting Western Politicians It's bad enough, isn't it, that we have to endure photo-opting politicians kissing babies and hugging children. And, when officious politicians indulge in self-promoting photo-ops in military attire it makes our stomach do barrel rolls. Dukakis' Photo-Op Flop 1988 US Presidential Election Campaign Readers may remember just how goofy Presidential-candidate Micheal Dukakis looked, poised atop a tank during the 1988 Election Campaign... in a photo-op flop that cost him the entire US military-patriot vote, and then some. Self-Promoting Turkish Politicians We find it equally distasteful when self-congratulatory Turkish politicians try their hands at self-promotion –- even when, as was the case (above left) with Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç, they get foolishly manipulated by canny Kurdish Separatists (and PKK enemies of the Turkish State). Scenes from Abdullah Gül's posturing photo-op that lured fatal PKK sneak-attack... Click! A couple days after this Abdullah Gül photo-op, a deadly PKK sneak-attack killed 16 Turkish troops in the same locale. Click! Thanks to Hürriyet Gazetesi 17 Oct 2011 And, what did you think of Turkish President Abdullah Gül's military-garb posings in Hakkari's Van province, with units of the Turkish Army in October 2011? A posing that turned deadly... by enticing (to the same locale) a PKK sneak-attack that killed 16 and wounded 24 Turkish soldiers, just a couple of days after that particular photo-op? It's almost as bad, we opine, when Turkish politicians, jockeying for photo-opportunities, flock immediately to the scenes of human tragedy (along with their disorderly entourages)... thereby disrupting rescue operations. Yet that's just what AKP Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, CHP-opposition-leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and the popular independent Mayor of Şişli Mustafa Sarigül did after the 7.2 Quake in Van and Erciş on 23 October 2011. In this instance, the only prominent politician who had the decency to stay away was the aforementioned Turkish President Abdullah Gül who, finally realizing his culpability in the PKK sneak-attack after his photo-op in military fatigues in Van province barely a week earlier, opted to stay at home so as not to interfere with earth-quake rescue operations. Self-Promoting Western Journalists I hope we're not the only ones who get the tummy yips when we observe self-promotional Western News Reporters strain mightily to project and elevate themselves into the news they're supposed to be reporting . “We don't just report the news, we're part of it,” says Maryam Nemazee -- a self-promoting female reporter on Bloomberg TV Channel's "The Pulse with Maryam Nemazee"... Some of the worst offenders we've seen are CNN's well-known headline-creating-and-trampling trio of Becky Anderson, Anderson Cooper, and Richard Quest...who have something in common besides news-reporting we've heard... wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Piers can't hep it, he jus' can't hep it! And, we hardly feel the need to mention CNN's obnoxious Piers Morgan who, based on his many self-serving jiggery-pokeries, is a grease-balling self-promoter of such magnitude that just the mention of him makes us want to pull over to the side of the Information Highway, and puke. Photo-Opportunistic Journalists of Turkey Well (sadly), the self-promoting reporters' trend has made its way to Turkey, in an equally distasteful way. To illustrate what we mean, consider the self-serving journalistic quartet at Hurriyet Gazetesi ...consisting of Sedat Ergin, Ertuğrul Özkök, Enis Berberoğlu (Hurriyet's Genel Yayın Yonetmeni – General Production Director), and Ahmet Hakan. They self-advertise themselves by the franchise moniker 4 Yüz (4-Sides) ... which, when they write under that 4-Sides name, is supposed to convey the idea that each of the 4 writers will report on the same 'issue', 'event', or 'subject' from a different angle... an accomplishment that escapes them at times. Take for example their recent 4-Yüz project entitled, 'The 10 Most Influential Turkish People'... Erdoğan's List of Top 10 Top Dogs The PM has no trouble with his first 7 choices, but then gets stuck... Click Large! with its self-promotional advert (displayed below, right) in which all four writers chose the same two men (PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the controversial Fetullah Gülen) in the top 5 of their respective lists. Click Large! Note: you may recall Gülen... the mysterious filthy rich former imam who doesn't even live in Turkey. He lives (with the USA's blessing) on an opulent estate in Pennsylvania ... from where he mentors PM Erdoğan on an almost daily basis. But our disgust level breaks the decency barrier when Turkish news reporters sink so low as to promote themselves as 'heroic witnesses' to human tragedy 'events' –- as Ahmet Hakan, Enis Berberoğlu, Ertuğrul Özkök, and Sedat Ergin did when they also rushed to the scene of the Erciş and Van earthquake (23 Oct 2011) for their own photo-op, seen just below. Look, ma... Still no scruples! Earthquake rescuers struggle in the background to save lives in a life-or-death race against time, while these 4 creeps jockey for just the right photo-op position. And lord only knows how many members of their unruly off-camera entourage are dashing hither and thither (colliding with bewildered and suffering quake victims in the process) to make sure the photo-op cameras are aligned for maximum dramatic effect and exposure... What a shame on Ahmet Hakan, Enis Berberoğlu, Ertuğrul Özkök, and Sedat Ergin! To the highest bidder bound...These 4 lard-ass Turkish Self-Promoters were always a suspicious and self-aggrandizing band of political fence-straddlers, but now they are waaay out of the closet in their support of the high-bidding religious-right AKP ruling party. And, 10-days [and counting] after the massive quake... and in spite of these insufferable boobs' photo-op pomposity that was supposed to attract aid to the region, actual victims of the quake are still awaiting emegency relief - living now in tent cities, in early-winter blizzard snow. BTW, that 7.2 quake was followed a couple of days later by a 5.7 quake that collapsed a hotel, killing more civilians...including 2 other nationally known journalists. Note: The fact that Turkey continues to permit faulty-building practices in earthquake-prone Turkey, is 'a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma'. And, the fact that, in a blatent vote-getting grab, the religious-right AKP government had already spent the entire Earthquake Emergency Fund on a road-building project (to increase employment in a region where they needed votes) is breathtakingly illegal. Yet, nothing can now be done about it, because the AKP also controls the judiciary system... A comeuppance in store for these 4-Face Turkish journalists? It's said that pride cometh before the fall. But, because these 4 self-promoter-reporters have already sold their souls to the highest-bidder (by becoming snake-oil supporters of PM Erdoğan's powerful Religious-Right AKP Party) they seem even to be exempt from the possibility of such a free-fall event. At least for the time being...
