Pop Star Tarkan's Metamorphosis -- December 2007
A new public image, a new pop music CD/album,
and a new hit single Vay Anam Vay
(with our translation of its lyrics into English)

With the release of his latest CD/album on Christmas Day, Turkish Pop Music Star Tarkan is sporting a completely new public image -- worthy of the CD/album's title... Metamorfoz; Metamorphosis. The new release is Tarkan's first all-Turkish album in four years -- 7 of the 10 CD/album's pop songs are of his own composition.

In March 2006, Turkish Pop Music Icon Tarkan released an all-English Pop Music CD called "Come Closer" -- which had been 10 years in the making. It went straight to the #3 spot on Turkey's Pop Music Chart -- and when Tarkan returned to Turkey from Germany (where he'd been to promote his all-English pop music achievement, fans and reporters mobbed him at the airport in Istanbul. When a reporter asked the Mega Pop Star to compare himself to the current crop of Pop Music new-comers, Tarkan raised a few eyebrows with his peremptory reply. "You can't compare those Pop 'wannabees' to me. You need to separate the (superior Pop Music) Apples from the (inferior Pop Music) Pears. Make the separation and you'll understand what I mean."

The declared hit song on the Metamorfoz album is Vay Anam Vay (the Turkish lyrics for it may be seen in full by clicking the article at upper right). The song is a rhythmic lament about a boy who is passionately in love with a girl who is totally unaware of his feelings. A figurative translation of the song title would be, "Help me someone/anyone please!" Including that as the catchy refrain, the whole song goes something like this, in English:

Don't ask.
Don't ask, "What's your trouble."
Come see, see my situation, and you'll know.

Little by little inside
I'm burning out of control.
If you say "die", I'll die for her.
I love her, my God how I love her!
Love's arrow has completely penetrated my heart.
I'm going mad and she doesn't even know
that I've been hit, that my soul is on fire.

Help me someone please, in my situation!
Help me someone/anyone please!

I can say easily that
my usual (swaggering) self-confidence is in tatters,
since I came within her range.
And now I can't wait for morning because at night...
little by little inside
I'm burning out of control.
If you say "die", I'll die for her.
I love her, my God how I love her!
Love's arrow has completely penetrated my heart.
I'm going mad and she doesn't even know
that I've been hit, that my soul is on fire.

For my troubles, there is no solution.
Love's arrow has completely penetrated my heart.
I'm going mad and she doesn't even know
that I've been hit, that my soul is on fire,
that I'm enslaved.

Help me someone please, in my situation!
Help me someone/anyone please!
