Pop-Music Star Tarkan... Not mugged in the Big Apple, just a little weak in the knee.
Tarkan returned home via THY (Turkish Airlines) yesterday from New York where he had been celebrating his birthday with girlfriend Bilge Öztürk. And he fielded questions about his reported mugging while in the Big Apple. Denying the mugging report he said, "Do I look like a rube? I wasn't mugged. Nothing like that happened."
And, when asked about the rumored postponement of his imminent European
tour (which was supposed to start in Paris) he replied, "I've had two
operations on my knee, and the pain has now moved to my thigh. I'm
going to have some physical therapy. My doctor said that I'd cause
more damage if I tried push it. I've done 30 concerts this year. I
decided to postpone a few."
For days now, it's been rumored that Tarkan's European tour was in
jeopardy. Well, it's official now. The tour is off... for the time being at least... so that the Pop Star can get some bed-rest and physical therapy... on orders of his doctor. uh huh.
Things are rarely as the seem in these cases though. And, Tarkan's
knee is a convenient excuse for the main and real reason for the
tour postponement...
It turns out that tour organizers from Paris to Frankfurt to London
weren't happy with pre-concert ticket sales... Seems that Pop Music fans, especially in Paris, had cancelled their original ticket purchases -- in a backlash protest over the French Parliament's
passage of the so-called Armenian Genocide Bill.
So Tarkan didn't request the postponements for health reasons. The Pop Music fans forced them -- by making it clear to tour operators that they'd face big losses if they tried to host the costly concerts during these particular 'trying times.'
Surprised anyone? That ideas can still move Pop Music fans?
We were, pleasantly.
