Turkish 'erotik' Films History The Players -- Actress Mine Mutlu 2/4
The Short Unhappy Life of
Mine Mutlu
(1948-1990)
In the middle of 1974, Mine Mutlu found herself at the center of the Turkish seks furyası (sex-movie boom). And, as we mentioned in Part 1 of Ms. Mutlu's mini biography, her first full-fledged 'erotik' film was Beş Tavuk, Bir Horoz (Five Chickens, One Rooster) in that year.
Five Chickens, One Rooster (written and directed by Oksal Pekmezoğlu) is the story of a poor villager given great sexual powers by the neighborhood doctor -- and it has the distinction of being Turkey's first sex-comedy film. Also, significantly, the film marks the point in Turkish 'erotik' movie history at which female actors first assumed 'leading' roles.
But Mine Mutlu's starring role in Rooster wasn't the first time she'd been a sexy leading lady.
In 1970, for example, she played a 'woman of easy virtue' in Ülker Erakalın's Köye Giden Yosma (Loose Woman Goes To Town). And, in 1971 she was the lead (as a stripper) in Nazmi Özer's Seks Fırtınası (Sex Storm), which despite its steamy title doesn't deserve an 'erotik' rating. But, that less-than-'erotik' 1971 film shouldn't be confused with the 1976 Seks Fırtınası/Sevmek Ölesiye (Sex Storm/Love Till It Hurts) starring Arzu Okay also directed by Nazmi Özer... which was quite 'erotik' -- in which Mine Mutlu also appeared, albeit in a minor role, as she prepared to leave 'erotik' films for good. | Arzu Okay starred, Mine Mutlu appeared in support -- in this 1976 'erotik' film directed by Nazmi Özer Click for enlargement! |
Mine Mutlu and Arzu Okay co-starred in the 'erotik' comedy classic Ah Deme, Oh De! (Don't Say Ah, say Oh!) in 1974 Click for enlargement! | Three films firmly established the sex-comedy film craze in Turkey... Beş Tavuk Bir Horoz and Ah Deme, Oh De! in 1974 -- and in 1975 Civciv Çıkacak Kuş Çıkacak. All starred Mine Mutlu... who deserves the lion's share of the credit for their success. |
But credit also goes to the Movie Directors of those films, Oksal Pekmezoğlu and Nazmi Özer -- who introduced a new Turkish film fashion, with their adaptations of Lando Buzzanhca's Italian comedy films. And this new 'sex-comedy film craze' nearly brought the conventional Turkish movie-making industry to its knees. Movie-going audiences filled the sex-comedy cinema houses, but they were no longer willing to pay for the weak-kneed pap of conventional films -- preferring to stay home and watch TV.
Mine Mutlu and Arzu Okay warmed up the place in Oksal Pekmezoğlu's 1974 sex-farce Olmaz Böyle Şey Click for enlargement! | Mine Mutlu followed up Rooster in the same year (1974) with roles in Nazmi Özer's Ah Deme Oh De! (Don't say Ah, say Oh!) and in another Oksal Pekmezoğlu film Olmaz Böyle Şey (This Kind Of Thing Isn't Possible). Click previous link to see a reconstructed film clip (a 5.8MB Windows Media Video .WMV file), in which Mine Mutlu uses her physical charms to help her brother Ahmet win betrothal of the next-door neighbor's daughter, Zeynep. Mine's sexy belly-dance mesmerizes the chubby father (and captivates his male friends)... So father gives his betrothal promise, and the neighbor men set off for home again -- a little worse for wear. But they can't resist a final peek through the bottom floor window... |
