Become A Police Officer in the UK... and learn Turkish too? Coppers need Turkish too... Police will learn Turkish in Great Britain The UK police force wants its native-English-speaking police officers to become more effective against religous zealots who attempt to gain credibility among Turks living in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. So the police are implementing a new language education strategy to teach Turkish to its police officers -- in a comprehensive program just starting. Police officials involved with the Language Education Plan say that large numbers of street police (including top level officers) will attend civilian language education courses and mix with members of the general population who are also learning Turkish. The goal of the British police was explained by a spokesperson, "Police need to make better informed, more reasonable decisions in venues where there are concentrations of native Turks. A knowledge of the spoken language is essential if our officers are to do that successfully." During their training, the native-English-speaking police officers will come often to Turkey so that they may learn about Turkish Culture first hand.
