Banu Alkan gets the nod over 17 other Turkish beauties

It's summer in Turkey, of course -- and a lot of celebrity news arises from the goings on of Turkish celebrities on beach holidays.
The other day for example, the paparazzi caught Singer/Dancer (and now mother-of-three) Sibel Can in a revealing tanga 'popo' shot on the deck of the tour boat she'd rented. Realizing she'd been caught in the compromising snapshot, she blushed, "Sulhi (Sibel's husband) is going to slit my throat." He didn't of course, but the incident prompted Uçan Kuş Magazine (a gossipy rag with a website presence at www.ucankus.com) to poll its website visitors on the question, "Which Turkish celebrity would you most like to see in a bikini this summer?"
And the results were surprising. For example, the usual favorite in such contests is Hülya Avşar (recent winner of the 'Sonar Research Company' Prettiest Turkish Woman Poll -- see our page at: http://www.learningpracticalturkish.com/beauty--006-05-25.html). But Hülya placed a distant 11th in the Uçan Kuş poll -- behind the likes of Lerzan Mutlu, Çağla Şikel, and Demet Akalın.
Most surprising of all... the outright winner was buxom blonde-bombshell Banu Alkan -- the controversial 'Neremi Girl'.
As a young movie starlet in the 1970s, Aphrodite (as she is known to her fans), was quite a beauty -- we admit. But she has always had a weight problem and time has taken it's toll on her looks. She is, to put it kindly, a little passed her prime. Or so we thought.

But... not only did she out-poll her beautiful competitors, Banu Alkan did it grand style -- garnering almost 17% of the 20,000+ votes cast, which beat the runner-up (and recently breast-implanted) Ebru Gundeş (before and after) by a full four percentage points! We can only guess that the poll takers were remembering Banu Alkan's breathy refrain 'Neremi, neremi' (Which part of my body do you like most?) from her sexy 1999 song hit -- as they cast their beauty votes in her favor.
